The Key Youth Theatre (KYT) is home to a large number of vibrant children and young people who meet at workshops sessions throughout the year.

KYT, presented by Kindred Drama, has been a creative home and life-line for thousands of children and young people, since it was created in 1992. It is a place where are given a powerful artistic voice, as well as creative training across a broad spectrum, and a place where their voices are heard, where they are challenged and where they are able to create theatre, in many forms, to the highest possible, professional, standards.

KYT, offers young people, aged 18 months – 18 + years, the opportunity to both develop their performance skills and build their confidence. Our vastly experienced team of Performing Arts professionals are all fully DBS checked and classes take place at the Key Theatre’s very own purpose built facilities.

We have a current membership of over 400 young people (and their families) who belong and treat us like a second home. We care about every single one of them: their well being and happiness comes before everything. They are treated as individuals. Not a number.

About KYT..
Kindred has never received regular funding, but relies upon self-supportive finances, including membership fees, box office sales and any income provided by education programmes in schools across Greater Peterborough and beyond. Passion, determination and an intense belief in our young people as artists has enabled Kindred to thrive, and we continue to receive excellent, nation-wide feedback for the work that is carried out with young people

We’re not the only ones to run weekly classes in musical theatre, drama, singing, dance and optional LAMDA exams for all ages. We’re not the only youth theatre offering regular Masterclasses with West End Performers. We’re not the only ones who offer regular professional and other performance opportunities to members. We’re not the only people to employ talented practitioners who share their knowledge, talents and skills with young people. We’re not the only ones who offer special shows at discounted prices - all of this we do already and continue to do all year round.....
We have waiting lists for almost everything we do- our turnover of members is very low- once you’re part of the KYT family, you’re always a valued member- even after flying the nest!
That being said- we’re NOT a closed shop and welcome ANYONE who wants to try what we do with open arms and lots of smiles. If we can offer you a place with us - we will!
What makes us unique?

Professional Theatre and Standards
Our sessions, rehearsals and performances all take place within purpose-built performing arts facilities and spaces at the theatre, which enables us to provide the most productive and authentic experiences for all our young people. We also ensure that all productions and performances are always of a very high standard and we continuously receive excellent reviews and feedback and have won various awards for the work we do over recent years.. However, we don’t churn out commercially driven ‘stage kids’ - we develop young people as a whole: their confidence, drive, motivation, expectations and friendships. Their phenomenal emerging talents happen as a by-product of this training.

A Bespoke Learning Experience
We offer all disciplines of the performing arts (drama, dance, singing, musical theatre & LAMDA) to our members, but we also offer the option of which one(s) they choose. Want to do drama but don’t enjoy singing? That’s fine. Love dance but not drama? That’s ok too. Just want to indulge in Musical Theatre? Absolutely! Our students can tailor their experience by attending the sessions they want to do – or just do them all!

Cost
With all we have on offer, our members are always surprised at how reasonable KYT is. Comparisons in the surrounding areas have found that with Kindred Drama, young people can receive more than double the number of hours of high-quality training for HALF THE PRICE of other organisations! We also don’t ever ask for each term’s fees in advance and payment is only required when and if a member joins after their no-obligation trial. We offer many different payment methods and support available - depending on what suits each customer and we strive to ensure what we do is affordable and accessible to all who wish to take part.

Staff and Students
We pride ourselves on having one of the best teams of experienced, DBS checked, first-aid trained practitioners working in Youth Theatre in the UK. All of our staff have worked, and continue to work, within the professional theatre industry and have trained at some of the most prestigious drama colleges and universities. Guest staff for our masterclasses are fellow professionals, many of whom are KYT alumni who have worked extensively within their Performing Arts field since graduating. We have one of the highest alumni success rates nationally- both in the performing arts industry and other related (and non-related) prestigious fields of employment. We’ve even had alumni who have gone on to star in Hollywood blockbuster films, working with Oscar winning directors, Steven Spielberg and Danny Boyle. We also run a successful Youth Leadership Team (YLT) which allows current older members to assist in various KYT groups, setting an example to younger members, building relationships and gaining valuable experience along the way to put towards Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes and other qualifications.

Communication
We strive to provide a personalised service for every one of the families involved in Kindred. We keep detailed information on file for every member and our team are always happy to be approached and discuss individuals on an informal or pre-arranged basis. We can be contacted online via our website, via email, our KINDRED APP, social media pages, telephone or indeed face-to-face every week! Half-termly newsletters provide detailed information for all members and their families. We are always striving to improve and develop everything we do. Our reputation may be strong, but we don’t ever rest on this and are continually asking for feedback to guide us.

Ethos
If all of that isn’t enough – KYT is the continuation on from an established youth theatre family, which has been running successfully since 1992 and has an excellent reputation both locally and in the wider professional industry. We are not a franchise which can be sold and bought anywhere else, by anyone else. Our members and staff (past and present) are all a part of a very special team, which provides a wonderful environment in which to grow up and make friends. We are extremely proud of our very successful alumni who stay in touch and come back regularly to lead workshops, attend reunions and support KYT as it has continued to evolve for over 28 years.
There are many local youth
theatres and performing arts classes around nowadays….so
why choose KYT?
